Proliferación de Especies Espontáneas

This exhibition is configured around alliances. OCA is a foundation and art gallery housed in a home, while Sindicato is a project without a fixed home that thrives on encounters, coexistence, and the joining of forces with other spaces and institutions. These partnerships continually present us with new relational and exhibition situations that enable fertile fields of action, encourage experimentation, and enhance open-ended outcomes.
The works displayed here have been gathered around their relationship with three areas of cohesion: text, textile, and texture, words that in turn share the etymological root of "weaving." Alluding to things made possible through the interweaving of various elements.
OCA's immediate environment is Gazcue, an urban area known for its historical significance, which, despite the real estate boom of recent decades, still constitutes a valuable architectural heritage of our city. The collection of neo-Hispanic and modern buildings that make it up demonstrates a sensitivity to the environment in which they exist, integrating the interior with the exterior through permeable elements that promote the entry of light and breeze into the construction, a succession of articulated spaces that connect the built with the surrounding nature, and consideration of multiple areas for landscaping. This contextualizing character, with its gardens, balconies, terraces, and extensive planters, offers us a rich and diverse ancient flora that would not exist otherwise. However, landscaping in the tropics has its peculiarities, as the rational and programmed intervention of vegetation is quickly altered by the overabundance of species that emerge on their own and join the planted ones. Plant richness and biodiversity resist being controlled.
Following this conciliatory rhythm, "Proliferation of Spontaneous Species" gathers works produced through the implementation of various aesthetic, thematic, plastic, linguistic, sonorous, and bodily resources that overflow the exhibition space, spilling over the area originally conceived as a gallery and sprouting throughout the grounds of this modern tropical residence.

NIGHT FLOW
NIGHT FLOW
Septiembre 2017
Artistas: Elisa Bergel Melo, Karla Read, Ernesto Paredano
